PM Modi to inaugurate 108th Indian Science Congress on Tuesday

PM Modi to inaugurate 108th Indian Science Congress on Tuesday

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officiate and witness the entire opening of the 108th Indian Science Congress via video conference on Tuesday.

The inauguration will begin at 9:30 a.m. A press release on Monday said the event was organized by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) at its Amravati Road campus.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of Maharashtra Public Universities, Union Minister and Chairman of RTMNU Centenary Celebration Advisory Committee, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of State (Independent Head) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for Science Technology and Earth Sciences.

Subhash R. Chaudhari, Vice Chancellor, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University and Dr. Vijay Laxmi Saxena, General President, Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Kolkata, will be present.

The theme of this year’s event is “Technology for Sustainable Development and Women’s Empowerment”. Public lectures and exhibitions are open to the public.

The technical session of the 108th Indian Science Congress is divided into 14 segments, and parallel sessions will be held at various locations in the university’s Mahatma Jotiba Phule Educational Campus.

In addition to the 14 segments, there will be the Women’s Science Conference, the Farmers Science Conference, the Children’s Science Conference, the Tribal Conference, the Science and Society Section, and the Science Communicators Conference.

The plenary sessions will feature Nobel laureates, leading Indian and foreign researchers, experts and technocrats from various fields including space, defence, IT and medical research. Technical sessions will showcase groundbreaking and applications in agricultural and forestry sciences, animal, veterinary and fishery sciences, anthropology and behavioral sciences, chemical sciences, earth system sciences, engineering sciences, environmental sciences, information and communication science and technology, materials and more Study science, mathematical science, medical science, new biology, physical science and plant science.

A particular attraction of the event is the mega expo, Pride of India. The exhibition will focus on the outstanding developments, major achievements and major contributions to society of Indian science and technology, bringing together and displaying hundreds of new ideas, innovations and products covering the entire canvas of the scientific community. Pride of India showcases the strength and achievements of governments, corporations, public institutions, academic and R&D institutes, innovators and entrepreneurs from across the country.

As a lead-up to the event, Vigyan Jyot, a traditional event of the Indian Science Congress, is scheduled to take place today. More than 400 elementary and middle school students gathered at Milestone Zero, wearing specially-made caps and T-shirts, and marched towards the university campus. They commit to adopting scientific thinking in their lives. ISCA General Chairperson Dr Vijay Laxmi Saxena (Mrs.) urged them not to learn science as a mere subject, but to make it a part of life in whatever they do.

Vigyan Jyot – the fire of knowledge – was conceived after the Olympic flame. It is a movement dedicated to fostering a scientific disposition in society, especially among young people. The flame was installed on the university campus and will continue to be lit until the conclusion of the 108th Indian Science Congress.
