Hyderabad: Cars have flat tires or run out of fuel on the winding 158km Outer Ring Road (ORR). The vehicle has broken down and cannot be moved and needs to be towed to the nearest garage. Had an accident on this access controlled highway and wanted immediate attention.
For any emergency on ORR, you can call toll-free 14449 for quick assistance.
This five-digit toll-free number is your one-stop destination for reporting all kinds of distress or emergencies on ORR. On alert, officials of Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a division of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), will promptly provide the help and assistance needed.
A network of 16 trauma care centers along ORR will dispatch a well-equipped ambulance in the event of an accident, health or medical situation. A team of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances are perfectly suited to provide first aid and initial assistance, caring for individuals in distress at the scene before transferring them to trauma care. This service is free for trauma care centers and advanced life support (ALS) ambulances.
However, help for other emergencies, such as towing, is chargeable, an HMDA official said. In these cases, a team stationed at the Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS) Control Center provides assistance and guidance to ORR users after a call for assistance is received. The teams also conduct virtual monitoring of the ORR and coordinate with police, patrol and trauma care center staff.
Currently, HGCL is making every effort through HTMS to provide safe and efficient 24/7 traffic management through CCTV cameras, SOS boxes and variable message signage, in addition to extending emergency services.
Another facility for ORR users to seek help in emergency situations is the geo-tagged SOS boxes provided at each kilometer on both sides of the road section.
“The person will either need to contact our staff via 14449 or SOS mailbox. The earlier toll-free numbers for emergency services, namely 1066 (Kokapet to Ghatkesar) extension and 105910 (Taramatipet to Nanakramguda) extension have been discontinued,” an HMDA official said .
