Hyderabad: Large-scale arrangements are being made for the second phase of the state government’s flagship Kanti Velugu scheme, which will begin on January 18. The government has approved Rs 200 crore for a mass eye screening camp to be held from 9am to 4pm.
As directed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the eye screening camps will be conducted in villages, township villages and municipal districts, and arrangements have been made by relevant officials, including formation of additional teams for the initiative.
Massive outreach has been undertaken to raise awareness of the eye camps, with ministers chairing meetings in the districts and setting timetables during meetings at municipality and parish level in Manda.
Directives have been issued to ensure the participation of elected representatives, officials, local bodies and stakeholders, and the government has issued instructions that every effort should be made to ensure the active implementation of the initiative.
The first phase will be conducted by 827 medical teams for eight months, while the second phase will be conducted by 1,500 medical teams for 100 working days. The Kanti Velugu camp will be led by a medical staff member, while eight other medical staff, including an optometrist, two ANMs, three ASHA staff and a DEO will work the counters.
Of the 5.5 million free glasses to be distributed, 3 million are reading glasses and 2.5 million are prescription glasses. Efforts are underway to ensure ready-to-go glasses are delivered to districts before camp begins. However, specific prescription glasses will be delivered within a month. The second phase of Kanti Velugu will have no shortage of healthcare workers, with nearly 1,500 optometrists, 1,500 data entry operators and 969 PHC doctors.
