Hyderabad: Livestock and Fisheries Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the Rs 50 crore facility will be built on a 10-acre site in Koheda, on the outskirts of the city. Wholesale fish market with modern facilities.
Srinivas Yadav, who held a review meeting here on Friday, said the proposed fish market, along with the wholesale market, would have retail market, cold storage and canteen facilities. He said the fisheries sector had grown tremendously since the formation of Telangana state and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had strongly encouraged the sector by allocating sufficient funds.
Srinivas Yadav said Telangana is now a leader in inland fish farming and since the state was formed, fish production has increased from 190,000 tonnes to 400,000 tonnes. He said modern fish markets are being established across the state so fishermen can get good prices.
The minister directed officials to establish markets for sheep and goat meat in all regions. He asked them to identify where to establish a meat market in each region and to send proposals to the respective regional collectors.
