Hyderabad: Golf is no longer an elite game. The Telangana Association of Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions (TSWREIS) Golf Academy became a place to train golfers from rural areas and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Professional golf coach Bhasker Samuel is training young players at the TSWREIS Golf Academy in Gowlidoddi, Hyderabad.
The first batch of four men and seven women has achieved remarkable results recently. The golfers proved their mettle as they returned to state with 28 medals (including 10 gold, 13 silver and 5 bronze) at the Southern Junior Tour.
U Akhila, G Amulya, M Anusha, Pragati, G Naveena, Haritha Rani and P Mukul recently confirmed their participation in the upcoming Indian Golf Union (IGU) National Youth Tour after their impressive performances in the South Zone Golf Tournament of their respective Category Seat Tournament.
With seven medals each, Akhila and Amulya top the academy leaderboard so far. Anusha (6), R Vignesh (3), G Naveena (2), G Madhu (2), Pragati (1), Haritha Rani (1) and P Mukul (1) are the other medalists from the Southern Zone Tour.

Commenting on the achievements of the young golfers, TSWREIS Secretary Dr Ronald Rose said: “I am delighted that the children are achieving results in the game of golf. When they are taught how to play, they know nothing about golf. They Coming from humble beginnings, we are on our way to greater heights. I don’t think our students will have the same drive and desire to play as anyone else.”
“Our students practice on normal grounds and once a week they go to Vooty Golf County in Vikarabad for practice to get a real experience of playing on the course. With limited resources, they train with good infrastructure Rivals put up tough battles to prove themselves. Despite their success in golf, they never neglected their studies,” he added.
“We are in talks with Boulder Hills Golf Club and Hyderabad Golf Club to give our players access to their courses. In a few months we will have access to their courses and will be training more students . I hope our students will bring more honor to our state and country,” the clerk said.
