Angels: “Where do I put my trophy? In my heart!” SS Rajamouli concluded his talk with The Hollywood Reporter on the Golden Globes red carpet with these words.
Rajamouli, looking regal in a tight black belt and body-hugging scarf with a red-trimmed shawl at the back, responded to the anchor’s reaction to a scene at the iconic Chinese Theater in Los Angeles the night before, as the audience began to follow along the aisles. Dance to “Naatu, Naatu”.
“Wouldn’t that be nice? Get the audience out of their seats and make them dance,” Rajmouli said. “I think it comes from the joy of watching the movie.”
He noted: “I don’t think American audiences have ever seen this kind of reaction. Back in India we do that. … Human beings are human beings all over the globe, no matter where they are.”
Speaking of the attention RRR has received and the Oscar-season hype it has created, Rajamouli says, “It feels really good. In India, we make thousands of films, but we hardly get any recognition abroad. If it It would be great to bring our films into the spotlight and help our filmmakers bring our stories to the world.”
Who’s going to party after the show? “My stars, R and Charan, they’re going to have the most fun,” Rajamouli said. “I’m usually one of those people who gets nervous about whether everything is going to go … on time.”
