Vadodara: Himachal Pradesh walker Sidharth Sharma dies at 28.
Sharma died in Vadodara on Thursday after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks with breathing problems.
His final rites took place on Friday in Nangal, Punjab.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his grief over his passing on Twitter.
“It is very sad news of the passing of Vijay Hazare trophy winner and star bowler Sidharth Sharma of Himachal. I pray God for peace of soul and may my loved ones have the strength to bear this great loss,” Sukhu tweeted.
According to ESPNCricinfo, the bowler is a resident of Una town in Himachal Pradesh and traveled to Gujarat for the Ranji Trophy match against Vadodara from January 3-6.
During a training session on December 31, he complained of shortness of breath and was hospitalized later that day.
Himachal spinner Mayank Dagar said the bowler has been on ventilator support.
“From January 3rd to 6th, we played against Baroda, but even during the match all of us were concerned about Siddharth’s health,” Dagar said.
“We visit him regularly in hospital but we have to leave him alone in Vadodara before going to the next game. [against Odisha in Nadaun from January 10 to 13]. His breathing problems continued to worsen, after which he was put on a ventilator. We are all deeply saddened by his death. Sidharth is a great part of our team and has a great connection with everyone,” Dagar added.
Sidharth made his Ranji Trophy debut in November 2017 against Bengal. He played six First Class cricket matches, six List-A matches and one T20 match.
He was part of Himachal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22 title team and played three matches for them, including the final against Tamil Nadu where he scored 1/34 in 10 overs.
