Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will inaugurate the newly built DR BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on February 17 to mark the former’s birthday, Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said in a statement.
The seven-storey secretariat building near Lake Hussain Sagar is in the final stages of completion. The building has a built-up area of over 700,000 sq. ft. and cost over Rs. 6 billion and is equipped with all modern amenities.
Chandrashekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the new Secretariat building on 27 June 2019. However, work has been delayed due to pending cases in the High Court and the Covid-19 pandemic. Work began in December 2020 and will be completed within two years, after a court rejected a petition from opposition parties and activists.
About 90 percent of the work on all wings of the new building is complete, with the remaining 10 percent, including construction of the dome and some blocks, due to be completed by the end of the month, according to officials. Shortly after construction is complete, the Ministry of Roads and Buildings will hand over the site to the General Services Department, which will finalize the allocation of rooms to the offices of the Minister, Secretary and others for internal works.
According to Prashant Reddy, work on the car park and other structures is ongoing and may take more time to become operational.
