Supreme Court committee reaffirms name of senior advocate Harpreet Singh Brar for promotion to Punjab and Haryana High Court judge

New Delhi: The full panel of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud of India has renominated senior lawyer Harpreet Singh Brar to be a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
In a resolution uploaded on the Supreme Court website on Wednesday, the panel comprising Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph said that on March 10, 2022, the full panel of the Punjab and Haryana High Court recommended that Brar be promoted to Supreme Court Justice . High Court judge. The recommendation was approved by the full bench of the Supreme Court on July 25, 2022. However, the Ministry of Justice pointed out certain issues and on November 25, 2022, sent the recommendation back to the Chamber for reconsideration.
The full Supreme Court sought the opinion of the full High Court in February, and the full High Court met on Feb. 23 to reconsider the recommendation to appoint Brar, taking into account the Justice Department’s opinion.

The Ministry of Justice, the High Court committee reconstituted with a new member, agreed that there was no reason to take a different view than before and reiterated its recommendation to elevate Harpreet Singh Brar,” said a statement posted on the court’s website.
The resolution further added that the full panel of the Supreme Court took into account the opinion of its advisory judges.
“The Committee has now obtained the views of two other Consultative Judges who were recently appointed as Supreme Court Justices. Having considered the views of the Consultant Judges of this Court and the reports submitted by the Chief Justice of the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana and the accompanying Collegiate records and documents, and after examining all aspects of the matter, the committee is of the opinion that Harpreet Singh Brar is fit and fit to be appointed as a judge of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana,” the Supreme Court committee resolution said.
