Dehradun: Uttarakhand’s Dehradun city is facing a possible entry into the state by pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh, the state’s police chief Ashok Kumar said. ), Haridwar and Udhamsinghnagar areas have been alerted as a precautionary measure.
“In view of the possible entry of pro-Khalistan Amripal Singh into the state, an alert has been raised in the Dehradun, Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the state as a precautionary measure,” the DGP told Year.

A total of 207 people were arrested for disturbing peace and harmony in the state, 30 of whom were found to have engaged in substantive criminal activities, while the rest were arrested preventively, said Sukhchain Singh Gill, headquarter of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in Punjab, on Thursday.
“The police are conducting a thorough screening of all those arrested and they will be released shortly,” he said.
The IGP said the operation was conducted under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to save innocent youths in Punjab from falling into the hands of anti-state forces.
“The Punjab Police has received clear instructions from the Chief Minister not to harass any innocent person in the ongoing operation. The police force did not even harass Amripal Singh’s family,” he said.
IGP Gill revealed more details, saying that a joint operation between Punjab police and Haryana police arrested a woman named Baljeet Kaur who harbored Amritpal Singh and him at their home in Kurukshetra, Haryana on March 19. The IGP said at a press conference in Chandigarh on Thursday, “We are still actively looking for Amritpal Singh and already know that its last location was in Haryana. We have detained a woman named Baljeet Kaur. Amritpal is staying at the woman’s home in Kurukshetra (Haryana) and Chief Waris Punjab De and his close aides have been in touch with her for the past two and a half years,” said Baljeet Kaur during questioning, the IGP said. It was revealed that Amritpal and his main aide Papalpreet Singh were staying at her home on the night of March 19.
“We arrested Baljeet Kaur with the help of the Haryana Police. She disclosed during interrogation that Papalpreet Singh and Amritpal were both staying at her residence on the night of March 19. She said she kept Papalpreet longer than in past years. Longer, he stayed at her house on several occasions,” the IGP said.
“After staying for one night, they moved out of there (her house) the next day. We are checking the CCTV footage and hope to arrest Amripal as soon as possible,” he added.
The Punjab IGP further informed that Amritpal and his assistants changed their two-wheelers near a gurdwara in Sehowal village, Jalandhar, and tried to find a boat to cross the river.
“Our team continues to follow his tracks. We are examining CCTV footage retrieved from several locations to trace his whereabouts. They changed their two-wheeler at a gurdwara in Sehowal village and are trying to find a boats to cross the river. However, they didn’t get one and ended up using a flyover to cross the river,” the IGP added.
“After wandering around in another two-wheeler, they hired a motor rickshaw. After this, they were in Kurukshetra. Gurpej (one of the four men arrested on suspicion of helping Amritpal escape) is currently in our custody , he told us there was another woman besides Baljeet Kaur and that he might turn to her,” the IGP added.
He said that in the ongoing operation, Khanna police had also identified another close associate of Amritpal, Tejinder Singh Gill alias Gorkha Baba (42) of Mangewal, Khanna village. Police also recovered some incriminating material from his property, including Anandpur Khalsa Fauj (AKF) holograms and weapons training videos.
The IGP said the March 22 FIR had been registered at Malaud Police Station, Khanna under Sections 188 and 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 27 of the Arms Act.
