Karim Nagar: The regional government is considering commissioning the Karimnagar cable bridge since the approach works are in the final stages. IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao is likely to inaugurate it on April 14.
Except for the approach road and the underground bridge, the work on the main bridge has been completed long ago. With all court cases cleared, officials are finalizing the approach, which is also entering its final stages.
On the other hand, the construction of a dynamic lighting system for the bridge at a cost of Rs 8 million is also progressing well.
As part of the Manair River Front project, a cable-stayed bridge is being constructed over Manair downstream of the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) near the Housing Board Colony on the outskirts of Karimnagar town.
On December 30, 2017, then Roads and Buildings Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1.81 billion project. Tata Projects and Turkish firm Glumark are both building the bridge.
Besides a 500-meter cable bridge, a four-lane road from Kaman to the bridge and a road to Sadasivpalli from the other side of the bridge, Rajiv Rahadari flyover at Peddapalli bypass, LED lights and beautification works are also being carried out under the project design.
The main structure including the 500m road, two pylons, intermediate piers and abutments has also been completed. A load test was also carried out in June 2021 by placing a 950-ton weight on the main span of the bridge.
Two of the bridge towers and the middle piers and abutments are the main structure of the bridge. Each tower is 44.8 meters high and plays a vital role in balancing the bridge.
They have 138 segments arranged for road purposes with the help of cables. The cable is a balance section at 220 meters between the two bridge towers and a balance section at 110 meters between the piers on both sides.
The distance between the abutment and the pier is 30 meters. The four-lane bridge road also has two 1.5m sidewalks, a 0.5m rail curb and a 1.5m centerline.
