Hyderabad: Continuing to demand the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the Adani group to condemn the disqualification of Congressman Rahul Gandhi and the anti-people and anti-democratic policies of the BJP, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP and members of other political parties on Monday Protests were held near the Gandhi statue on the parliament grounds.
Dressed in black, scarves and turbans, BRS lawmakers chanted slogans in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha before parliament adjourned until noon.
Speaking to media sources, BRS Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao said the BJP-led coalition government was trying to wash hands of the JPC’s demands, citing a Supreme Court panel on the Adani Group issue.
The JPC is not the same as a Supreme Court jury. He said that in the JPC, all the facts and figures will be unearthed and kept before the people of the country.
He also condemned Congressman Rahul Gandhi for being disqualified from Congress. He said the move was anti-democratic and illegal.
The BJP argued that Rahul Gandhi had made comments about the Modi community, but it was actually a family name, not a community, he said, adding, “Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and myself have Rao as a surname, not a community,” Keshava Rao explained.
In fact, the BJP is against the welfare and development of BC. It made no commitment to ensure BC’s growth, he said.
BRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao has accused the BJP government of disqualifying Rahul Gandhi from Parliament to divert attention from alleged irregularities by the Adani Group.
Since the start of this session, all opposition parties including the BRS have called for the establishment of a JPC in the Adani group. However, there was no news from the BJP and today, both houses were immediately adjourned when opposition lawmakers demanded the formation of the JPC, he said.
The BJP is trying to silence the voices of opposition parties in both houses. These are dark days for the country’s democracy, he said.
“BRS will continue to fight BJP until JPC is formed on the Adani bloc issue,” Nageswara Rao said.
BRS MPs Divakonda Damodar Rao, J Santosh Kumar and others were present.
