Under the VDVK program, support was given to livelihood activities of tribal populations in different states
Hyderabad: The BJP-led coalition government sanctioned only 17 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) for Telangana, while Gujarat and Karnataka sanctioned 116 and 140 Kendras, respectively. Under the VDVK programme, support was given to livelihood activities of tribal populations in different states. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is implementing the “Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission” (PMJVM) under which financial assistance is provided for the establishment of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs), Union Minister Arjun Munda said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Responding to a question from Congressman Rajendra Dhedya Gavit, the Union Minister said that the VDVK upgrades the traditional knowledge and skills of the tribes by adding technology at every stage of collection, processing, value addition, packaging, branding and value added marketing. Tribal MFPs and non-MFPs produce or products to ensure they get better paid. The VDVK consists of 15 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), each with approximately 20 beneficiaries. TRIFED, an autonomous organization under the Department of Tribal Affairs, implements the program through the State Implementing Agency (SIA). For this, he said, financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh per VDVK was provided to SIA based on the proposals received from the state governments.
