Hyderabad: The family of Boya Kistappa, a 45-year-old resident from Jogulamba Gadwal who was declared brain-dead, had donated the deceased’s organs under the state-run Jeevandan organ donation scheme.
Kistappa was involved in an accident while cycling in Ibrahimpatnam on March 25 and was transferred to a local private hospital and later to Yashoda Hospital in Somajiguda.
At Yashoda Hospital, Kistappa spent three days in intensive care in the intensive care unit, but doctors declared him brain dead on March 28 as his health did not improve.
After grief counseling by a Jeevandan coordinator, Kistappa’s family, including his wife Boya Pavani, agreed to donate his organs. Two kidneys, liver, two corneas and two lungs were retrieved and distributed to the patient according to Jeevandan guidelines for organ donation.
