Rajanna-Sircilla: On Thursday, at the ancient Sri Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada, the heavenly wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Seetha was celebrated in a different way.
Apart from the wedding of Rama and Seeta, the wedding of Joginis, Shiva-Parvathulu and Lord Shiva’s bride to the Lord God is an important ceremony in the whole Sri Rama Navami celebration held at Vemulawada shrine.
Thinking of themselves as bridges to Lord Shiva, they wear new clothes, jewellery, turmeric on their faces and cinnabar on their foreheads. Besides the “jhola” which contains the “thalambralu”, they also carried a Trishul (trident) decorated with brightly colored flowers and bells. During the wedding ceremony, the devotee holds a trident and the wedding ceremony is performed with the chanting of Vedic hymns.
When the temple priests announce the completion of the wedding ceremony of Lord Rama and Seetha, they sprinkle ‘thalambralu’ on each other and spread ‘zilakara bellam’ (jaggery sugar and jira paste) on their heads before tying the yellow Their marriage to Shiva wears a “rudraksha” thread around their necks. The ceremony is called “Linga Dharana”.
Huge numbers of devotees from different parts of the state as well as neighboring states like Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh flock to the temple town to watch Lord Sri Rama and Seetha grand wedding.
The temple authorities have made careful arrangements for believers. Large LED screens were also arranged in different places in the temple town to help believers watch the wedding ceremony.
