Ahmedabad: Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s left knee injury has raised doubts about his participation in the IPL opener against the Gujarat Titans here on Friday, but the team’s chief executive has ruled it out.
The 41-year-old former India captain, who apparently injured his left knee during training in Chennai, did not bat for CSK’s match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on Thursday.
When asked, CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanthan told PTI, “As far as I’m concerned, the skipper is playing 100 per cent. I’m not aware of any other developments.” In case Dhoni does not play, CSK may call for Devon Conway or Ambati One in Rayudu kept the wicket as they didn’t have any dedicated stumps in their ranks.
Dhoni has done a lot of preseason training, but he usually doesn’t do much at the start of games in order to conserve energy.
At his age, any ailment doesn’t take long to build up and become more serious, taking more time than usual to heal.
With so much travel and back-to-back games, it’s still possible that Dhoni won’t be willing to take the risk and miss more games later in the game.
However, the Jharkhand sprinter has not missed the game and has overcome a number of minor issues, including back problems.
