Jeddah: The spiritual fervor of the Sri Rama Navami festival was celebrated on Thursday in the Gulf nation of Oman.
On the occasion of Sri Rama Navami, the heavenly wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita was celebrated with great pomp and joy at the Sri Krishna Mandir in Muscat.
Hundreds of Telugu NRIs gathered at this temple, one of the oldest in the bay, to witness the grand celebration. Many members of the Telugu NRI community living in Oman participated in the festivities and offered silk cloth and ‘talambralu’ to the deities.
Although Thursday is a working day in Oman, many devotees, many from remote areas such as Salalah, Sohar and Ibri, poured into the temple.
The ceremony was officiated by priests including K. Dattatraya Sharma and Satyaditya, both priests from Hyderabad but based in Varanasi, who flew from Varanasi to Muscat specifically for the event. They were assisted by K. Vijaykumar, a well-known purohit in Oman who was born in Karimnagar area.
According to Chandana Ramdas, one of the main organizers of the event, the Mahaprasadam is distributed to the devotees after the initial rituals which include Veda Patham, Sankalpam, Ganapati Pooja, Punyahavachanam, Magalaharthi. Mango leaves and other pooja ingredients come from Oman, he added.
