An unidentified man poured gasoline and set one of his fellow passengers on fire, and escaped after the passenger pulled the emergency chain.

Kozhikode: Eight people were injured after an unidentified man allegedly poured petrol and set one of them on fire in an altercation on an express train near Elathur in Kozhikode district on Sunday night.
According to the railway department, the incident occurred around 10 pm in the D1 compartment of the Alappuzha Kannur Main Executive Express train.
The unidentified suspect escaped after passengers pulled off the emergency chain.
During an altercation, a man reportedly poured gasoline and set one of his fellow passengers on fire.
Other passengers were burned as they tried to extinguish the fire. The injured included three women.
“Anilkumar from Thalasseri, his wife Sajisha, their son Advait, Ruby from Kannur and Prince from Thrissur were among the injured passengers,” the source said.
The train stopped at Elathur and railway authorities were notified of the incident.
“All eight burnt passengers have been transferred to the hospital and after the necessary checks, the train has been dispatched to its destination,” a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said.
“Further investigations are ongoing,” they added.
