Uttar Pradesh reports first Covid-19 death in 2023

Currently, Uttar Pradesh has 842 active cases of Covid-19 and 23,650 deaths have been reported so far.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has reported its first death from Covid-19 this year, health officials said.

The state also reported 192 new Covid cases on the day, while 68 patients recovered in the state, including one in the state capital Lucknow. There are currently 842 active Covid cases in the state.

An elderly woman who tested positive for Covid-19 on April 2 died while undergoing treatment on Thursday, while 35 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Lucknow.

The deceased, a resident of Vrindavan Colony in Lucknow, was taken to a private hospital in Aran Bagh.

She was diagnosed as a patient with multiple organ failure and tested positive for Covid-19 using the TrueNat method.

“She was later transferred to King George Medical University (KGMU) where a second sample was taken for Covid testing on April 4. A report on the second sample is awaited,” a senior health official said.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, 2,701 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported in the state capital so far.

So far, 23,650 people have died in the state.

The death toll will be updated once samples taken at KGMU are confirmed and reported, officials said.

A sharp increase in new Covid cases was reported in the state capital on Thursday, with 35 more people testing positive compared to 24 new cases on Wednesday.

According to the health department, six patients were from Indira Nagar and Aliganj, five from Sarojini Nagar, four from Alambagh and Chowk, two from Chinhat, Qaiserbagh and Tudiyaganj, and one each from NK Road, Malihabad and Aishbagh.
