Hyderabad: Dr P Raghu Ram, Cancer Surgeon and Founding Director of the KIMS-Ushalakshmi Center for Breast Diseases, has been appointed International Consultant to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow (RCPSG), one of the oldest Royal Colleges. He is the first doctor from a Telugu-speaking country to be appointed to the post.
Dr Raghu Ram, one of the few people in the world to have received fellowships from all four Royal Colleges of Surgeons of the British Isles (FRCS – London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland) at an early age, will write for a press release Called, RCPSG. The appointment is in recognition of his established academic record over the past two decades to assist budding surgeons in the Indian subcontinent.
Professor Hany Eteiba, RCPSG International Director, who confirmed the appointment for 2023 to 2026, with an option to extend for a further three years, has written to Dr Raghu Ram.
From 2010 to 2020, Dr Raghu Ram also served as the International Surgical Consultant of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for 10 years, making him the only surgeon in South Asia to be associated with the two oldest Royal Colleges in the world, the International consultant.
While working in the UK, Dr Raghu Ram has been conducting annual courses since 2000 to prepare doctors for the final FRCS and MRCS exams in Hyderabad.
After moving to India in 2007, he also represents the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain to conduct the MRCS Inter-School Final Examination in Hyderabad every year, thus avoiding the need for doctors to travel to the UK to sit for this examination.
