Hyderabad: Industry Minister KT Rama Rao strongly objected to the Centre’s exclusion of three coal mines in Tamil Nadu from the auction list, asking why different states in the same country had different regulations.
Telangana has been claiming links to four coal blocks in the state, which the coal ministry has repeatedly auctioned off as part of its attempt to open up the country’s resources to commercial mining, despite strong objections from the state.
He pointed out that Telangana had repeatedly asked the center to allocate coal blocks to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) over the past two years. However, even after failing to find a buyer in previous rounds of auctions, the Coal Ministry issued another notice last week to list three coal blocks in Telangana for auction.
Indeed, Telangana has witnessed widespread uproar against the center’s move, with the BRS leading a massive protest against the auction in Singareni and elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the Center has agreed in a totally discriminatory manner to the exclusion of three coal mining blocks in the Kauvery Delta region from the proposed auction of coal mining blocks proposed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on April 4 other requests.
“This is exactly the Singareni coal mine we have been demanding and protesting today… 4 coal mines in Telangana removed from the auction list and allocated directly to SCCL… Why do different states in the same country have different regulations?” (sic ) Rama Rao tweeted.
