Mumbai: Veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane hit his best 61 for 27 balls as he beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at Wankhede Stadium. Great opportunity Sat.
Rahane, who was taken by CSK for a reserve fee of Rs 5 million, entered the squad when England Test captain Ben Stokes retired through injury. He was surprised by his skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who sent him into command after Devon Conway went out with zero in the first over.
He smashed the fastest half-century of 19 deliveries in the 2023 IPL and sent CSK to victory in their pursuit of a modest 158 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad patiently struck out 40 with no outs, batting as Rahane fought for his game. Their bowlers brilliantly bowled Mumbai Indians in 20 overs after Dhoni won the bowl and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first After limiting at 157/8, CSK hit 159/3 in 18.1 overs, scoring 61 balls in 27 overs.
Chasing a modest goal, the Chennai Super Kings suffered an early setback when opener Devin Conway was dropped by a duck when he shoved a backfield throw from Australian pacer Jason Behlendorf , who bowled in and hit his stumps, the Australian pacer claimed the New Zealand batsman’s fourth delivery of his first ball.
Dhoni pulled a rabbit out of his hat when he sent Rahane to bat, and the India Test stalwart did not disappoint his skipper. When the Australian pacer erred in length, he fired Behlendorf up the rope with a superb draw and then did the same for Arshad Khan, who dropped the ball down the leg with a full-length .
Rahane, 34, enjoyed Arshad Khan’s bowling in the fourth inning. After hitting the 6, he cut an outside cut, sent the next pass to the sideline over the third, then cut again over the screen for three straight fours to beat Arshad Khan . When Arshad rounded the wicket for the last two overs, Rahne pushed him straight to the fifth boundary of the innings (4 fours and 1 six). He finished with 23 points on a single.
In the next over, Rahane hit a six off Cameron Green and reached the fastest IPL 2023 50 by hammering the boundary of Piyush Chawla’s consecutive delivery. He hit Chawla, his seventh boundary of the night, before throwing the experienced bowler with a broken leg straight to Suryakumar Yadav, who finished with the bottom of his bat when the ball came a little slow. .
Rahane’s 61 off 27 balls sent CSK to victory as he and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 81 for the second wicket. Thanks to his blitz, CSK scored 68/1 in power play and 97/2 in the halfway stages. Mumbai Indians are 84/5 after 10 overs.
While Rahane was out, Gaikwad continued to hold the fort as he patiently played the inning. He and Shivam Dube (28) added 43 for the third wicket. Gaikwad (40 not out) and Ambati Rayudu (20 not out) came on as Impact Players, leading the four-time champions to seven wicket wins with 11 balls remaining and 34 wickets on 18 balls in the incomplete fourth oral partnership.
