Year 10 students and their parents gathered at Oxford High School in Zahrabad on Saturday.
sangaredi: An independent school’s negligence in renewing its accreditation left eight Year 10 students unable to sit their Year 10 exams and lose a crucial school year.
As the parents approached the police, a case was filed and the principal was arrested. Oxford High School in the town of Zaheerabad failed to regain its accreditation from the Year 10 board two years ago.
However, the school’s administrators admitted students from Class 10. Even if the parents have paid the tuition and exam fees, the school administrators cannot give them tickets because the school has no chance to pay the tuition in their name.
Although four of the six exams had been completed by Saturday, management was unable to release tickets for the exams.
Having lost a school year, the students and their parents contacted the Zahrabad police on Saturday, while also filing a complaint with the district education officer.
After gathering the details of the students, Superintendent DEO Vijaya found out that the school was not recognized by the board to provide Grade 10 education. The DEO has sent a detailed report to the Telangana State Secondary Education Board on the whole issue.
Students may also not be able to get permission to take the remaining two exams, officials said. At the same time, the Zahrabad police also filed a case against school administrators for cheating.
One of the parents said they were charged Rs 25,000 for school fees and Rs 1,000 for exams.
Police have since arrested the school principal Indira and brought her to court, after which she was remanded in custody. Police and education departments are investigating further.
