Hyderabad: The Covid-19 situation in Telangana is still under control, health officials said.

Statistics from the latest week show that, as in March, the number of daily cases is still fluctuating between 20 and 30.

On April 7, the state recorded 29 new cases. A total of 5,029 samples were tested, according to the director of the Ministry of Public Health and Family Welfare.

Another 21 people recovered that day. The recovery rate was 99.49%. No new deaths were reported.

A total of 154 Covid cases are being treated/isolated, the Director of Public Health said.

On April 6, the state reported 21 new cases, up from 26 a day earlier.

Most of the 33 districts reported zero or one case per day. In recent months, however, a boarding school reported 15 cases for the first time. Pupils at tribal welfare boys boarding school in Mahababad district have tested positive for Covid-19.

Health officials said it was an isolated incident and there was nothing to panic about.

The highest daily count of 54 in the past few months was recorded on March 15. The number fluctuated between 15 and 40 throughout March.

The center last month issued an advisory to six states, including Telangana, on the rise in cases. It instructs the state to examine the situation at the micro level (districts and streets) and focus on taking the necessary measures to manage it quickly and effectively. The ministry also recommends strategies for testing to follow up on treatment vaccinations.

Health Minister T. Harish Rao called on the people not to panic but to remain vigilant and take appropriate actions to deal with the rise in positive infections.

He said all eligible persons will have to receive a booster Covid-19 vaccine at a government hospital.

The state government has also written to the Federal Department of Health and Family Welfare requesting an additional Covid booster shot for the state.

The Telangana government has decided to procure 1.5 lakh doses of the vaccine from Hyderabad-based Biological E to resume vaccinations, as the Center has asked states to procure Covid vaccines and booster shots directly from the open market.

Health officials and doctors say the situation is nothing to worry about.

They point out that it was in March that Covid-19 cases started to increase and a similar pattern was observed in the first three waves.

The coronavirus is now on the brink of an epidemic, they say, but people at high risk should take steps to protect themselves. This group includes children, the elderly, and people with comorbidities.

The health department also clarified that the recent surge in Covid was not related to the surge in viral fever.

Healthcare professionals say the Covid-19 pandemic isn’t completely out of our lives.

They said that the Indian ecosystem has effectively dealt with the pandemic, but the recent rise in the number of infections clearly shows that the coronavirus has not completely withdrawn from our lives and vigilance may have to be maintained not to let the virus overcome us.

“Coronavirus has taught us doctors that we can never stop learning and must be prepared to meet new challenges. From the perspective of Indian society, the Covid-19 pandemic has reaffirmed the golden rule that prevention is better than cure,” said Amor Hospital Dr. Kishore B Reddy, MD.

“Covid-19 cases are rising again in India. While this shouldn’t scare us, it’s important that we remain cautious and make sure the virus doesn’t overpower us,” Praveen Kumar Kulkarni, consultant physician and diabetologist at KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad Dr. said.
