Washington: U.S. President Joe Biden has again teased a re-election bid without announcing it.
“I plan to run,” Biden added in an interview with NBC News on Monday, “but we’re not ready to announce it yet.”
Biden has previously said he intends to seek re-election, but he will make an announcement after consulting with his family.
In February, first lady Jill Biden told CNN, “Of course, I’m all for it.”
While no official announcement has been made, there are indications that the U.S. president will run for re-election, defying questions about his age, including from members of his own political party.
Biden is 80 years old this year and is already the oldest president in American history at 78 years old. If he wins, he will be 82 years old when he begins his second term in 2025.
Former President Donald Trump, Biden’s main Republican challenger, is 76 and would be 78 if he wins and wins a second term. He lost the 2020 re-election to Biden and is running for a third time, but legal troubles are mounting.
President Biden currently has 42.6 percent approval and 52.6 percent disapproval in FiveThirtyEight’s overall poll. While the economy has recovered from the severe impact of the Covid-9 pandemic and unemployment is low, inflation remains high and recession fears are on the rise due to rising interest rates, which the Federal Reserve has raised to keep prices in check. In the air, two regional banks have failed in recent weeks.
