At the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board meeting in February 2023, the PCB announced that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for the Asian Cup, it will not travel to India for the 2023 World Cup.
UPDATE – Fri 04/14/23 5:15pm

Hyderabad: A few days ago, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said that the PCB could lose around $3 million in revenue if the country withdraws from the Asian Cup. He threatened to boycott the Asian Cup if the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) moved the venue to another country.
Pakistan dreams of hosting the event again after 15 years since it last hosted it in 2008. Cricket teams have been reluctant to play cricket in Pakistan for security reasons after the Sri Lankan team was attacked in 2009.
It all started in 2022 when the ACC announced Pakistan as the host country for the 2023 Asian Cup. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah immediately responded that he would ask the ACC to stage the match at a neutral venue, citing safety and security concerns.
To address this, Najam Sethi has proposed a hybrid format where India will play at offshore venues and the rest of the matches will be played in Pakistan. He made it clear to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that Pakistan will only participate in the Asian Cup if it accepts a mixed format
At the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) board meeting in February 2023, the PCB announced that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for the Asian Cup, it will not travel to India for the 2023 World Cup.
On the other hand, BCCI clarified that the decision on whether to deal with Pakistan rests with the Indian government, not them. BCCI also confirmed that they need permission from the government to compete in any country.
India’s tough stance against Pakistan has discouraged many ex-Pakistan players. Cricketers such as Waqar Yonis, Shahid Afridi and Javed Miandad have publicly criticized the BCCI’s stance on the Asian Cup.
Former Pakistan middle batsman Javed Miand slammed the BCCI several times. In February this year, he sarcastically said that if India does not want to come to Pakistan, go to hell. In a podcast hosted by Pakistani podcaster Nadir Ali, Miandad said of the Asian Cup row: “Forget about safety, we believe in agar maut aani hai toh aani hai. Zindagi aur maut toh allah ke haath mein hai.”
The last time India visited Pakistan for the Asian Cup was in 2008, while the Pakistani team last visited India in 2016 for the ICC T20 World Cup.
If Pakistan pulls out of the Asian Cup, it will be a huge disappointment for fans of both countries. The Asian Cup is scheduled for September, a month before the start of the 2023 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India in October 2023.
