Hyderabad: Shaakuntalam, a romantic fantasy drama directed by director Gunasekhar and starring Samantha, opens today. Compared with the huge expectations before the release, the film did not leave a deep impression on the audience. Gunasekhar is not up to the standard of making a mythic movie.
Although the film received poor reviews, it did well at the box office on its first day. This may be due to the early booking and frenzy effect of the first day. Shaakuntalam grossed $125,000 at the US box office on its first day (including the premiere). That’s a pretty good number for a film that received negative reviews. Shaakuntalam is distributed in the United States by Radha Krishna Entertainments.
Shaakuntalam is produced by Neelima Guna and Dil Raju. Dave Mohan plays the lead actor in the film. Allu Arha made his debut as Prince Bharata. Composed by Mani Sharma.
Shaakuntalam’s budget can do better. Somehow, Gunasekhar missed the mark yet again while making this movie, and ended up with an extended version of his previous film Rudramadevi instead of an enhanced one.
