Prayer meeting: Gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by unknown assailants Saturday night as they were escorted by police to a medical school here, Events took a dramatic turn.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the incident, which came two days after Ahmad’s son was shot dead in a police encounter in Jhansi, a senior police official said.
The shooting, which took place around 10 p.m., was caught on camera as members of the media followed the pair, who were escorted by police to a hospital for medical tests.
At least two people posing as media personalities were seen shooting Ahmed and his brother, who were lying on the ground, at close range. Police quickly subdued the attacker.
Tensions gripped the area after the horrific killing, with the bullet-riddled bodies of Ahmed and Ashraf being carried away from the scene.

Former Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ahmad and his brother Ashraf are brought here for a court hearing in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal.
Ahmad’s son Assad and an accomplice were killed in a police confrontation in Jhansi on April 13.
