Chandigarh: Punjab police on Saturday arrested Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh’s aide Joga Singh from Sirhind town for allegedly providing shelter and other assistance to Amritpal in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Narinder Bhargav explain.
Days earlier, police in Amritsar had arrested Papalpreet Singh, the mentor of the fugitive radical preacher.
“Joga Singh had a direct connection with Amritpal Singh. He arranged for Amritpal Singh’s accommodation and vehicle. He arranged for him to stay in Pilibhit and return to Punjab,” Bhargav told media in Amritsar.
Police also released an earlier photo of Joja Singh sitting next to Amripal Singh wearing a yellow turban.
Senior Superintendent of Superintendent (Rural) Satinder Singh said Joga Singh was the one who brought Amritpal back to Punjab on March 27. He is in charge of a “dra” in Pilibhit.
Police said Joga Singh was with Amritpal Singh from March 18 to 28.
Since March 18, Amritpal Singh was on his way to Jalandhar after a massive police crackdown to arrest him, but he managed to escape on a motorbike and has since He has been evading arrest, changing locations and appearances many times.
Papalpreet Singh, a key associate of fugitive ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief and self-styled radical Sikh missionary Amritpal Singh, was arrested in Punjab’s Amritsar district on Monday and detained under the National Security Act (NSA), the police chief said. Sukhchain Singh Gill said.
Papalpreet Singh was detained by the Amritsar Village Police on April 10 under the National Security Act (NSA), and there are six other cases against him.
Papalpreet Singh is a Khalistani activist who described himself as a journalist before becoming the radical preacher’s media adviser. A resident of Amritsar district, he was earlier arrested in 2015 on suspicion of links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
The tough laws were earlier invoked against Daljit Singh Kalsi, Bhagwant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Prime Minister Bajeke and Harjit Singh, who have been transferred to Dibrugarh Central Prison in Assam.
