Hyderabad: The state’s growing infrastructure capacity has sparked the growth of several industries here, resulting in a large population influx, which in turn has led to an increase in the need for power connections in the state.

Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) saw a 15 per cent increase in electricity connections, while Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSNPDCL) saw a 6 per cent increase in electricity connections in FY2022-23.

During 2021-22, the state has 1.7 million electric service connections, including household (1.21 million), agricultural (2.623 million), non-domestic (1.672 million) and industrial (98,247) connections. In 2022-23, there is a substantial increase in all categories of electricity consumers, increasing the total number of electricity consumers in the state to approximately 2,06,19,263 connections. This includes 1,23,36,341 home connections, 1,72,5414 business connections, and 1,02,763 industrial connections. Agricultural connections rose to 2,6,37,868.

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has forecast energy consumption in Telangana to grow by more than 58.71% in the decade from 2021-22 to 2031-32, and utility officials expect further increases in power connections, including LT and HT , especially in and around the Hyderabad area in the coming days.

According to G Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of TSSPDCL, approximately 37,000 new electricity connections are approved every month and more than 400,000 are registered every year. Around Hyderabad, HT connections to industries as well as household electricity connections are gradually increasing around Hyderabad, he said, adding that electricity connections will increase by 7-8% per annum during 2020-22 and double by 2022-23 , up to 15%.

He said that in the past decade, the state has witnessed tremendous growth in all sectors followed by a several-fold increase in demand for electricity, adding that the efforts of the Telangana government to provide electricity to the population of the state are commendable and today the The state can meet the electricity demand of various categories.

Raghuma Reddy said that with the upcoming Hyderabad Pharmaceutical City project, there will be an additional demand of 1,000 MW in the next 5 to 10 years. “Necessary arrangements are being made to meet demand,” he said.

In Hyderabad, there are approximately 6 million domestic consumers and 1.3 million non-domestic consumers.

At present, the county has more than 3,500 substations, including 3,166 33KV stations, 246 132KV stations, 98 220KV stations, and 23 400KV stations, supplying power to users.
