Hyderabad: During the height of summer, it’s important to take precautions to protect yourself from the heat. Rising temperatures can take a toll on the human body and lead to heat-related illnesses. Therefore, necessary measures must be taken to minimize the impact of heat waves.
The India Meteorological Department has advised people to avoid going out in the sun, especially between 12 noon and 3 pm when the sun is most glaring. If you must go outside, wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting, porous cotton clothing for comfort.

In its advisory, IMD recommends avoiding high-protein foods and stale foods during heat waves. Stay away from alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks as they can dehydrate the body.
Outdoor operations should wear a hat or an umbrella, and wipe the head, neck, face and limbs with a damp cloth. If you feel dizzy or unwell, you must seek medical help immediately.
To keep the house cool, it is recommended to use curtains, blinds or awnings and keep windows open at night. Using a fan, wetting your clothes, and taking frequent cold showers can help keep your body cool.
