New Delhi: After removing all the old blue checkmarks and requiring individual users to pay for verification, the Elon Musk-run Twitter on Friday asked advertisers to either pay for verification or they would not be able to appear on the platform. Advertisement.
Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, shared the letter Twitter sent to advertisers, which reads that starting April 21, “your account must have a verified checkmark, Or subscribe to Twitter Blue or a verified organization to continue advertising on Twitter.”
“Business accounts with monthly spending over $1,000 have or will soon receive their golden check, at which point they will continue to enjoy uninterrupted access to advertising,” the company said.
The company said it is consistent with a broader verification strategy to improve the quality of content on Twitter and enhance the experience for users and advertisers.
“This approach also supports our ongoing efforts to reduce fraudulent accounts and bots. Subscribing to any of these services means you have been verified by Twitter as a real person and/or business,” the Weibo platform said.
Navarra tweeted: “Twitter is now telling advertisers that it must subscribe to Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations to continue running ads!”
Twitter has asked businesses to pay $1,000 a month to keep the gold badge, and brands and organizations that don’t pay will lose their checkmarks.
The Musk-run company, which is busy monetizing its platform in various ways, will also charge an additional $50 per month to add a badge to each account associated with the brand, The Information recently reported.
Earlier, all old verified accounts lost their blue badges, causing confusion on the platform around the world. Several celebrities lost their blue check marks.
