Patna: Former Union minister and BJP veteran Subramanian Swamy claimed on Saturday that senior Congress officials, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, will be jailed for reporting by the State Herald.
The case was brought by Swami, who accused the Gandhi family of misusing party funds to buy a company that published the now-defunct National Herald newspaper.
“Today, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were released on bail. Gandhi said a lot, but no one sent me to jail.”
Asked whether Nitish Kumar would be the coalition opposition party’s candidate for prime minister in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Swami said: “Nitish Kumar is my good friend since the JP movement, but he never said he was a candidate for prime minister. Man. I met him today and talked to him about it,” Swami said.
Asked whether India, the world’s most populous country, should have a population control bill, Swami said he did not believe in such a bill, adding that if the country’s economy grows, the population will be brought under control.
“In order to reduce the population growth, we have to increase the economic growth rate by 10% per year,” Swami said.
Asked about holding up slogans in Patna in support of slain gangster Atik Ahmad, Swami said India is a democracy where anyone can say anything. However, those who hold up slogans in support of Atik Ahmed are only doing themselves a disservice, he said.
