Kanti Velugu: More than 1.17 crore people screened in 59 days in Telangana

Hyderabad: The state government’s flagship Kanti Velugu programme, which aims to reduce preventable blindness in Telangana, has reached the unique milestone of conducting eye examinations for more than 1.17 million people in 59 working days.

During a review of the Kanti Velugu scheme on Sunday, state Health Minister T Harish Rao said the Kanti Velugu scheme, which will last until 100 working days, is expected to provide basic eye screening tests to 20 million people in Telangana.

The Health Minister also congratulated the DMHO, Deputy DMHO, Program Officers, Medical Staff, Ophthalmologists, Medical Directors, ANM, Asha, DEO, Panchayati Raj, Municipal and other sector officials and representatives of the public involved in the Kanti Velugu initiative.

To date, more than 1.586 million people have been fitted with reading glasses and 995,000 people with prescription glasses as part of the Kanti Velugu program. Through the tests conducted, a total of 8.55 million people (72% of the total screened population) were found to have no eye problems.

During the meeting, the health minister directed officials to ensure Kanti Velugu screening is available to all who need it. All districts have been instructed to complete the target by increasing the number of special eye camps over the next 41 working days.

Regarding the ongoing CPR training, the health minister said that 73,370 health personnel, police officers, municipalities, village councils and others have been trained so far. To further enhance the CPR program, training will be provided for employees of malls, market complex associations, trade associations, and college students.
