Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police have registered 600 cases against vehicles using sirens illegally in the city.
A few days ago, traffic police launched a special operation after noticing drivers were obstructing the free flow of traffic and causing safety-related problems.
The police at the police station level have been patrolling vehicles all over the city and removed the sirens. The special operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) G Sudheer Babu.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Babu said traffic inspectors are prosecuting violators under the MV Act and removing sirens. “If we know that violators have been registered for similar offenses, we will initiate criminal proceedings against them,” the official said.
According to RTA rules, only fire trucks, ambulances, police and vehicles used for moving construction equipment or construction purposes can use this emergency siren. Traffic police have made it clear that ordinary people are not allowed to use sirens for any reason, unless there are exceptions, a rule that only applies to emergency vehicles. Police will continue to use this particular drive for the next few days unless people stop using it.
During the inspection, traffic officials discovered that relatives of public representatives and those holding nominated positions were installing sirens on their vehicles and speeding through traffic on city roads. In a few cases, the traffic police also stopped the vehicles of public representatives and relatives of legal persons and removed their sirens.
