Neil Marr: Thieves have stolen valuables worth Rs 3.4 lakh from two houses in Kirgul (B) village in their second raid in as many days in Basar mandal.

Basar Deputy Inspector Mahesh said the complainants were Kapil Kumar and Shaik Moeen from Kirgul (B) village.

Unknown persons opened an iron wardrobe at Kapil Kumar’s home at around 8 am and stole seven pieces of gold jewelry worth Rs 90,000. Unidentified persons stole 30 grams of gold belonging to Moeen worth Rs 2.54 lakh. Thieves reportedly stole valuables from three houses in the same village, but no complaints have been lodged.

On Tuesday night, unidentified persons took three pieces of gold and Rs 3,000 in liquid cash from the residence of a woman Godavari was not present, and then robbed Rs 4,000 from Jalal Begum. The thieves entered Erram Pandurang’s house by opening the gate of Mailapur village and stole Rs 3 rupees in gold and Rs 40,000 in cash.

They then tried unsuccessfully to steal silver jewelry from Narsubai, an old woman from the same village.

Police said patrols had been stepped up in rural areas and in the center of Basar Mandalay, while special teams were formed to catch thieves. A team of village chiefs was also formed to increase vigilance at night and prevent burglary. They suspect thieves from the northern states may be at work.
