Mumbai: How can a son think of his father who died young? His father is also a star, and his acting skills are admired all over the world. How will a son come to terms with his “best friend” leaving for good? Babil Khan, the eldest son of the late actor Irrfan Khan, poured out his heart on a public forum last year, sharing some anecdotes about his father. Ahead of the third anniversary of Irrfan Khan’s passing, let’s revisit the actor from Babil’s perspective. The young actor is constantly sharing his dad’s story on social media.
Irrfan passed away on April 29, 2020, at the age of 53 from neuroendocrine cancer. He is remembered for films such as Lunchbox, Same Name, Piku, Inferno, Maqbool and many more.
Babylon recalled at that event that “Baba” was his best friend, his soul mate. But he’s a busy man and spends most of his time shooting. So, one day, ten-year-old Babylon decided to go to God and tell him how lonely he was. He told his father, and Irrfan readily accepted his offer. The two drove to Igatpuri, Irrfan’s farmhouse. The “Piku” actor tells Babil to put on his swimming trunks. Then he lay on his back on the water. “I was running around trying to regain control,” Barbier said.
Irrfan Khan pulled him out of the water and said, “Workout done, do it tomorrow.” Because, for the next nine days, Babylon did the same thing over and over again. On the tenth day, Babylon lost interest in seeing God, he was bored. But on that day, without hesitation, he tried to take back control. He let the river take him. “Dad watched me float away. Just as my head was about to hit a rock, he pulled me out. He said, ‘Today you surrendered, today you met God,'” recalls Babylon.
Yet he barely understood at the time what his father was trying to teach him. After his father died, Babylon returned to where he was looking for God. “The sun was setting. The sky was purple. My feet were in the water. I told Dad that I couldn’t find the ground under my feet. Then I heard Dad’s words in my head, “Today you surrendered.” You surrender. Barbier continued to share fond memories of his father as he progressed in his career path.
“He’s the king and I’m his jester. I want him to see that I’ve grown into his prince. I want him to see what he wants to see, but I’m too late,” Barbier said on the ramp for the first time. Wrote when unveiled.
Babil shared photos from the past, writing: “Questions keep me up at night. The ones I never asked then and the ones I will never ask now. I leave my inquiries to myself and that’s ok I will Figured it out. But I miss your laugh, I don’t think there’s an answer.” The footage shows baby Babylon being taken by Irrfan. “
Babylon also recalled that Irrfan Khan was eager to rehearse scenes with Babylon. But he used to think, “What’s the hurry? Baba will always be there…” But in a blink of an eye the ‘ever’ turned into a ‘never’…Babylon now understands why his ‘Baba’ is in such a hurry…
