New Delhi: Online food delivery platform Swiggy has started charging all users a “platform fee” of Rs 2 per food order, regardless of the cart value.
The company told IANS that the surcharge is only levied on food orders on the main platform and does not apply to Instamart users.
“The platform fee is a nominal flat fee charged on food orders. This fee helps us operate and improve our platform and enhance app functionality to provide a seamless app experience,” a Swiggy spokesperson said in a statement said in.
The platform fee is higher than the convenience fee and handling fee for takeaway.
As last reported, Swiggy claims to have processed more than 1.5 million to 2 million orders that day.
During Ramadan, people in Hyderabad ordered up to 1 million biryanis and 400,000 plates of haleem on leading food delivery platform Swiggy.
In March, the online food delivery platform said it had delivered 33 million plates of idlis in the past 12 months, indicating the dish’s popularity among customers.
Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai are the top three cities with the most idlis orders.
On average, the company has more than 250,000 restaurant partners enabled on its platform and typically onboards about 10,000 restaurants per month.
