San Francisco: Social discussion forum Reddit has launched “Chat Channels,” a new way to chat within subreddits.
With this move, the company is trying to give community members more ways to interact.
“This month, we’re doing an exclusive trial with 25 volunteer subreddits to try out a new way to chat within a subreddit — Chat Channels! Chat Channels are dedicated spaces within a subreddit to connect, ask questions, or just hang out,” Reddit said in a blog post on Thursday.
New features will include a dedicated channel for moderators to discuss subreddit moderation, plus they will be able to choose whether to enable this feature for the community first.
Additionally, the platform will provide tools for moderators, such as the ability to choose who can participate in chats, manage chat queues, and moderate report messages in conversations.
Additionally, the company said it would shut down Predictions as early as May 9.
“This means that, as early as May 9th, the ability to create new tournaments, join active tournaments, and view old tournaments will no longer be available, and historical content will be removed,” Reddit said.
According to the company, the decision to turn off Predictions was made to help make Reddit simpler, easier to browse and engage with.
“Sunsetting Predictions allows us to focus on building products that have a wider impact on mods and redditors,” the company shared.
Earlier this week, Reddit released an update to the subreddit’s header, and most redditors on iOS and Android will see a simplified and modern design.
Under the Subreddit header redesign, all users will be able to use the header tabs (“About”, “Menu”, etc.) and title are reduced to allow more post visibility.
“While this update is live, we’ll continue to iterate on subreddit titles to make the ‘About’ tab more prominent in the future,” the company said.
