Hyderabad: A torrential downpour fell in Hyderabad on Sunday as high winds and lightning battered the city.
For almost two hours, Hyderabad and several other districts such as Medchal, Sangareddy and Rangareddy were on red alert as the intensity of the rains remained undiminished.
The Khajaguda sports complex in Gachibowli recorded the highest rainfall with 63.8 mm by 10:00 pm. Shaikpet and Jubilee Hills follow at 52mm and 46mm respectively.
Other districts including Miyapur, Qutbullahpur, LB Nagar, Uppal, Saroornagar, Amberpet and Khairatabad were also hit by heavy rains.
The city suffered multiple power outages, causing inconvenience to residents. Many areas were flooded, causing waterlogging and traffic jams.
The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) stepped in immediately and alerted and deployed Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams to ensure the safety of citizens. The city agency also issued a warning to citizens, advising them to stay indoors and not venture outside unless necessary.
The Metropolitan Department is forecasting that the rain is likely to continue for the next three days, with daytime temperatures staying below 35C. Authorities have urged citizens to take necessary precautions and stay safe during this period.
