New Delhi: Samyukt Kisan Morcha on Sunday announced a series of nationwide mass protests between Aug. 1 and Aug. 15 to urge them to demand the legality of minimum support prices, farmers’ pensions and integrated crop insurance schemes.
The decision was taken on Sunday at the national meeting of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella group of various farm unions.
According to farmers’ groups, more than 200 leaders of farmers’ organizations attended the meeting.
It said core requirements for its minimum support price (MSP) law, debt forgiveness, farmers’ and farm workers’ pensions, comprehensive crop insurance schemes will be discussed in all states/union territories of the country from May 26 to May 31 To agitate, etc.
SKM said in a statement: “This will include launching a mass protest march to all MPs and key political leaders in their constituencies, and submitting them a memorandum warning them to address all farmers’ demands immediately or they will face serious problems. Further protest.” .
In May, June and July, SKM’s state and regional level meetings will be held in each state/Utah to motivate and organize farmers and farm workers, it said.
Between Aug. 1 and 15, mass protests will be held in coordination with unions and organizations to end the center’s sale of farmers’ and workers’ interests to businesses, the statement said.
“Massive all-India yatras will be held across the country from September to mid-November, led by state leaders from SKM. The yatras will pay particular attention to states where parliamentary elections will be held such as Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chad Tisgarh, Telangana, etc,” it noted.
The farmer’s group also announced that it will commemorate the “India Shaheedi Diwas” on October 3, the day 8 people including 4 farmers were killed in 2021.
“On November 26, the day the historic Dilli Chalo farmers’ procession reaches the border of Delhi, ‘Vijay Diwas’ will be celebrated by holding day and night pujas for at least three days in all state capitals,” it said.
SKM also expressed its solidarity with the female wrestlers protesting WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. It backed former Jammu and Kashmir governor-general Satya Palmalik, who is said to have been a supporter of farmers.
