The café, which seats 300 to 500 people, has seven stalls surrounded by palm trees with clay pots attached to them.
The roof is designed in the shape of a palm leaf, giving the cafe a unique tropical feel. In addition, the cruise ship facilities from the cafe to the Tank Bund Buddha statue will be open to the public, increasing the appeal of the cafe.
The highlight of this café is of course the Neera, an unfermented nectar from palm trees. The liquid is collected in a clay pot, which is tied to a tree before sunrise.
Unlike toddy, which is a fermented version of the same extract and has 4% alcohol, Neera is alcohol-free. However, it has a short shelf life and can only be kept fresh for a maximum of five days at 4°C. Neera is currently only available at this cafe in the city, but takeaway is an option.
The state government is sanctioning the drink, which is said to be nutritious as it contains magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, protein, sugar and vitamin C. It is believed to improve the body’s internal cleansing mechanisms, which can help ward off problems like diabetes, fatty liver and heart problems.
