Mohali: Ishan Kishan hit a stunning 75 while Suryakumar Yadav hit his wide shot with a whirlwind 66 and the duo shared a 116-run partnership on the third wicket to help Mumbai Indians chase 215 and IS beat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Bindra PCA Stadium on Wednesday.
Although the duo went down at the back end of the chase, Tilak Varma and Tim David went on the attack to complete the chase with seven balls to go. The win also means Mumbai have 10 points and have overtaken Punjab in sixth place in the standings.
Mumbai were hit hard in the opening game as Rohit Sharma danced across the pitch and caught Rishi Dhawan offside. But the top edge flew to the deep fielder, leading to his sack for a three-ball duck.
Ishan started the advance by hitting Arshdeep Singh for back-to-back fours offside. After Cameron Green took two boundaries from Sam Curran with a topside and sweep, Kishan hit Rishi’s long ball long for two sixes.
Nathan Ellis, who came on as Prabhsimran Singh’s influential substitute, succeeded in a strong attack with the last ball as Green pulled the ball straight deep in the mid-wicket. Mumbai’s impact player Suryakumar got out of the box with Rahul Chahal’s pulls, cuts and sweeps.
At the other end, Kishan danced the course, hitting a four with Harpreet Brar, then sat back and hit a six over deep center wicket. Kishan got his fifty off 29 balls after beating Chahar by four.
Suryakumar made the cut with Curran, cutting deep to the post and driving on two sixes. He then drove past the bowler, took off his wrist beautifully, and hit two fours, the second of which gave him 50 off 23 balls.
His batting prowess continued, knocking Ellis on point and Ashdeep for a foursome. Kishan tore Arshdeep further as he hammered six over the deep mid-wicket and slammed the ground twice for two fours.
The Mohali crowd found their voices when Suryakumar sliced short third near Ellis, while Kishan hooked straight to deep leg near Arshdeep. Varma secured Mumbai’s momentum by pulling Arshdeep to six, taking the next ball for four and firing another six over the deep center wicket.
David brazenly hit a 4 on Curran and sliced away Arshdeep with the same result, before Tilak finished the chase with a massive straight-six thud to the ground.
