Hyderabad: Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials have decided to launch a city-wide campaign and crack down on tax-delinquent vehicles.
Some defaulters are charged a dues of Rs 100,000, which has resulted in regular reminders being sent to them and vehicles stopped on the road. RTA officials found that approximately 5,000 transport vehicles in all RTA offices in all districts of the city were in arrears in taxes.
According to RTA sources, the defaulters owe the RTA taxes and arrears ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 1 lakh. These taxes are levied on all vehicles with commercial licenses and contract transport licences, such as cars, buses, trucks, etc. Because some vehicles have been confiscated by loan recovery agencies, taxes on these vehicles are being increased, officials said.

For special driving, Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) have been dispatched to different checkpoints and officials hope to recover the tax as soon as possible.
The cost of a new car in Telangana is determined by adding lifetime road tax to the showroom price. There are multiple factors that determine the road tax that a car owner has to pay, with the age of the vehicle, make and make, fuel type, length and width of the vehicle, engine capacity, etc. playing a vital role. Seat capacity and number of wheels are also considered for calculating road tax.
Typically, the Transport Agency charges road tax that is a percentage of the original vehicle cost to ensure uniform taxation across vehicle classes.
