Visakhapatnam: On Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport in Bhogapuram, Visakhapatnam. The estimated cost of Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport is Rs 4,592 crore.
The airport, to be developed by GMR in a public-private partnership on 2,203 acres about 40 kilometers northeast of the city, will have two runways and be able to handle the giant A320 and A380 aircraft. It is scheduled to begin operations in 2026. Nearby will be the Cargo Center, Aviation Academy, and Rage.
Speaking at a public meeting, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport will boost economic activity in the northern Andhra Pradesh region and will serve as a central point for Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
He added that the cornerstone of the project was laid by the previous TDP government. The project was not launched because the then government had not completed the land purchase process and had not obtained the necessary permits. However, our government has taken care of everything, laying the groundwork for the development of the region.
