New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to feature pictures of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on banknotes.
At the press conference, Kejriwal called for pictures of Ganesha and Lakshmi to be printed on the new banknotes. He said the new currency could have a picture of Mahatma Gandhi on one side and two deities on the other.
“Efforts are made, but sometimes our efforts are not fruitful if there are no gods to look after us. I call on the prime minister to put pictures of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on our currency,” Kejriwal said.
Citing the example of Indonesian currency with a picture of Ganesha on it, Kejriwal said, “If our currency has a picture of Lakshmi-Ganesha on it, our country will prosper.” The Delhi CM also said he would write about it in a day or two Letter to the Prime Minister.
“Indonesia is a Muslim-majority country with only 2-3% Hindus who have pictures of Ganesh ji on their currency…why can’t we when Indonesia can do it,” Kejriwal told the media time said.
The Delhi chief minister clarified that he was not asking for a change of notes, but for the new notes to include pictures of Lakshmi and Ganesh. “New banknotes are printed every day. These pictures can then be added,” Kejriwal said, adding that the two gods were associated with prosperity.
