Average monthly revenue per paid subscriber for Disney+Hotstar fell from $0.74 to $0.59 due to lower ad revenue per subscriber, report says

Hyderabad: Disney+ lost more than 4 million paid subscribers in the fiscal second quarter. Disney+ reported 157.8 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the previous quarter. The company attributed the drop to Disney+Hotstar, which lost 8% of its subscriber base — from 57.5 million in the first quarter to 52.9 million in the second.
Disney+Hotstar’s average monthly revenue per paid subscriber fell from $0.74 to $0.59 due to lower advertising revenue per subscriber, the report said. Disney+ lost Indian subscribers as it did not opt for streaming rights to the Indian Premier League cricket league.
Robert Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said: “We are pleased with our achievements this quarter, including the improved financial performance of our streaming business, which reflects the strategic changes we are making to realign Disney for continued growth and success. “
Disney+: 104.9 million, up 1% from 104.3 million in the first quarter
Disney+ Hot Star: 52.9 million, down 8% from 57.5 million in the first quarter

ESPN+: 25.3 million, up 2% from 24.9 million in the first quarter
