New Delhi: Spin twins Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar shared six wickets between them to help Punjab Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 31 runs in the IPL here on Saturday.
It was DC’s 8th loss in 12 games, and they became the first team to be eliminated, while PBKS kept their playoff hopes alive, climbing to sixth place.
David Warner, who struck 23-ball 50s, his 60th 50s in the IPL, gave DC’s 168-run chase a flying start on his way to 54 (27b; 10×4, 1×6).
From 69 runs without a loss in the power game, DC tore Delhi from seventh to 11th with Brar (4/30) and Chahar (2/16). Brar dismissed Warner with a successful review and didn’t look back as DC was limited to 136/8 on the slow.
Throwing in the batting, PBKS rode 103 off Prabhsimran Singh, in his first century in the IPL, with 167 for seven. Veteran Indian pacer Ishant Sharma (2/27, 3 overs) took valuable scalps from Shikhar Dhawan (7) and Liam Livingstone (4), while left-arm spinner Axar Patel (1/27) dismissed Jitesh Sharma in good shape ( 5 ).
But Prabhsimran kept ticking, hitting 10 fours and six sixes in his 65-ball overs to help PBKS recover from 45/3. Sam Curran (20) backed him up in midfield to build a 72-run (54 balls) partnership.
