Hyderabad: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has emphasized the need for greater coordination among centres, state governments and scientists to grow the agricultural sector. He said that in the context of the G20 summit, the federal government’s focus was on “one family, one planet and one future” and agriculture remained a priority sector for the country.
The union minister inaugurated the EEI Golden Jubilee Auditorium at the Extension Education Institute (EEI) in Rajendra Nagar on Monday in the presence of Telangana Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy.
In his speech, Tomar said the central government has been supporting the establishment of start-ups and training centers focused on strengthening agricultural research in India. He hopes that Krishi Vignan Kendras (KVKs) and EEIs will be able to produce agricultural master trainers, and the newly inaugurated EEI auditorium is a testament to the government’s vision to provide modern facilities for training institutes to enable scientists, researchers and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge, ideas and expertise.
“Programs should be developed to meet the food needs of the country’s growing population. Research findings should be accessible to small and marginal farmers even in remote parts of the country. Emphasis should be on increasing crop yields, yields and reducing losses ,” he added.
Niranjan Reddy said the support mechanisms provided by the state government to farmers have enabled them to increase their income and improve their socio-economic status. He said Telangana had become an example for others to follow and urged the Center to expand its support to the state government in its initiatives. He felt strongly that the support provided to farmers facing multiple challenges was not enough.
Manoj Ahuja, Secretary-General of the Agricultural Union, M Raghunandan Rao, Secretary-General and Agricultural Commissioner of Telangana State, and Professor V Praveen Rao, Vice-President of Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, attended the ceremony.
