Hyderabad: WhatsApp has introduced several new features this year. The Meta-owned app will now allow its users to lock their most intimate and private conversations as it introduces a new “Chat Lock” feature.
According to WhatsApp, Chat Lock lets users move their most intimate conversations into a separate folder that can only be accessed with their device passcode or biometric authentication such as fingerprints. Additionally, the feature hides sender names and message previews from notifications in locked chats.
When chat lock is enabled, all messages in the chat will be hidden until you unlock it. Chat lock can also be enabled for multiple chats on WhatsApp.
Here’s how to enable chat lock on WhatsApp:
- Update WhatsApp to the latest version on your Android or iOS device.
- Go to the specific chat you want to lock.
- Click the profile picture for a contact or group.
- An option called “Chat Lock” will appear just below the disappearing Messages menu. Click it to enable the feature.
- Enable Chat Lock and use your phone passcode or biometrics to authenticate.
Here’s how to access locked chats on WhatsApp:
- Open WhatsApp and go to your home page.
- Scroll down on the screen to access all locked chats.
- Click on the locked chat you want to access.
- Authenticate with your phone passcode or biometrics to unlock the chat.
At the same time, WhatsApp also announced that more options will be added to Chat Lock in the future, such as locking companion devices and creating custom passwords for chats.
